D.tec International’s been around since 1996, and in that time they’ve quietly become one of the UK’s go-to names for drug and alcohol testing, working alongside police, backing public safety campaigns and supporting hundreds of businesses across some seriously high-stakes industries. From transport, logistics and construction to warehousing and utilities, their work helps to protect over a million safety-critical workers. So when they hit their 30th anniversary this year, that was never going to pass without a proper celebration.
And a proper celebration is exactly what they planned, taking over Wrea Green Institute, a private members’ club that’s become a bit of a local hotspot for events of all sizes. Fifty guests got the call to come and mark the occasion, and Hog Roast Preston got the call to feed them. Once we’d talked through the options, our Gourmet BBQ Menu came out on top pretty quickly.
If you’re looking for a menu that never misses, this is it. Featuring classic British BBQ favourites given a proper gourmet lift, it’s a great choice for events where variety is key. This time, we rustled up tender pulled pork, thick butcher’s sausages with just enough char to give a smokey finish, and handmade 100% beef burger patties, with optional melted cheese and onions on the side – and all of it went down brilliantly. Guests could genuinely taste how fresh everything was, and with seasonal green leaf salad, pasta salad and a mix of sweet potato and classic fries served in abundance on the side, they didn’t hold back when it came to seconds.
D.tec had also asked us to add something a little extra for the occasion – thick, juicy steak slices that picked up all that smoky char from the grill while staying properly moist inside. And for anyone not eating meat, Hog Roast Preston’s veggie burgers and grilled vegetable skewers, with optional halloumi and tzatziki, meant nobody was left standing around with a growling stomach.
Watching a room full of people relax and tuck in together was a nice reminder of what this milestone was really about. Thirty years spent helping keep workplaces safer isn’t the kind of thing that happens without a great team behind the scenes, and it felt right that the celebration matched their effort with good food, good company and a genuine reason to raise a glass.
