Water and electricity is usually a recipe for disaster – we all know that much. But when the heavens opened and thoroughly drenched Electrium’s summer party earlier this month, nobody let it dampen the mood, pun very much intended.
The team, leaders in the UK when it comes to manufacturing electrical installation equipment, spend all year working hard for customers and clients across the country, so a proper reward was well overdue. And a bit of rain certainly wasn’t going to stop them from making the most of the day the managers had planned.
150 Electrium staff gathered under increasingly grey skies, tapped their feet along to a live band and made good use of the bar, which kept drinks flowing steadily all afternoon. But if we’re honest, and we’ll try not to brag too much here, the real star of the show was Hog Roast Wigan.
Hog Roast Wigan had been brought in to make sure everyone stayed properly fed from start to finish, and we took that job seriously. At the client’s request, we prepared a full hog roast for the hungry crowd, minus the head this time, so as not to put off any of the non-meat-eaters watching on. It’s a small adjustment we’re always happy to make, and this time, plenty of people were quietly grateful for it.
But don’t worry, removing the head didn’t take anything away from the spectacle. The pig still looked genuinely impressive and guests wasted no time piling their plates with pulled pork, crackling, sage and onion stuffing, and our homemade applesauce, which they either stuffed into soft rolls or wraps, or enjoyed deconstructed. Sweet potato and classic fries added a bit of extra interest to every plate, while our vegetarian and vegan guests tucked into colourful grilled veggie kebabs loaded with red onion, bell peppers, mushrooms and halloumi for anyone who fancied it.
All in all, Hog Roast Wigan’s hearty spread turned out to be exactly the antidote needed for some distinctly un-summery weather, keeping spirits high across the whole afternoon.
